7 Essential Habits Of Successful Networkers
Bad habits are like a warm bed. They are very easy to get into and very hard to get out of. Good habits seem to take more effort to get in to, but the rewards can make it well worthwhile. I’ve heard it said that if you repeat an action 30 times, it will become a habit, so try to get into the habit of getting into good habits!
Reknowned author, Stephen Covey explains in his book 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People, which is also available on CD, that in life, as well as in business, there are 7 essential habits to maximise your chances of success.
Be Proactive. Lead by example. Go out and get things done and people will follow your lead. Do what is necessary to get the job done. If you have a distributor who you think may need some help or guidance, don’t expect them to come to you. Go to them, or call them and ask how you can help. We all know that keeping in contact with distributors is the best way to keep them involved. Don’t expect them to call you. They may be embarrasssed to ask what they consider to be a daft question. Contact them instead and you will build astrong relationship with them.
Begin with the end in mind. Make your goals and help your team make theirs and work towards those goals. It doesn’t matter how big your steps are, just as long as you are moving in the right direction. Make sure that everything you do is geared towards achieving your goals. Be effective, not just busy.
Put First Things First. I think it was Jim Rohn who coined the phrase “don’t major on minor things’. Have priorities and make sure that the most important tasks are the ones you do first. This takes discipline. It’s easy to have a “to do” list of 20 things and to do the 10 easy things first. It makes you feel good that you have ticked a lot of items. This is the wrong approach though. Start with the difficult things. Maybe you are not comfortable making prospecting calls. Set yourself a target of how many calls you will make and don’t stop until you’ve done them. All of the little things can be done later on in the day, but the important things have to be done first, no matter how difficult you perceive them to be.
Think Win, Win, Win. Know that you are on the right path, and take steps to make sure that you are making the best of the opportunity at hand. Improve your interpersonal skills. Show people how to do things, don’t just tell them. Work together with your team to help them achieve their goals. Remember, that “if you help enough people to get what they want, you will get everything that you want” - I think it was Zig Ziglar who coined that particular phrase. In network marketing that is one of the fundamental things to understand. read it again. It’s important. “If you help enough people to get what they want, you will get everything that you want”.
Seek To Understand, Then Be Understood. Listen carefully. Whether you are attending a training session or one of your distributors is asking a question, listen carefully. Make sure you understand what is being said. You cannot effectively teach your team if you do not fully understand the subject matter. Similarly, there is no point in answering a question if you have not understood what the question is. So don’t just hear to the words, listen to them and understand them. Educate yourself in order to teach. Mix with successful people and listen to them. Listen to what they say, but also how they say it.
Synergise. In network marketing this is a massive point. If you work together as a team the whole is so much greater than the sum of the parts. Teamwork and team spirit can create an un-stoppable team. Create that team spirit by implementing the habits mentioned previously. But try also to create a common vision and a common goal that all of your team can work towards. Incentivise your team to encourage friendly competition, but ensure that the ultimate aim is to get everyone working together for the common good.
Sharpen The Saw! As in any area, repetition is the mother of skill. Continue to learn. Continue to improve yourself so that your skills do not become blunt. Anthony Robbins uses an acronym CANI standing for Constant And Never-ending Improvement. You should subscribe to this approach and you will soon gain mastery of your life and your business.
If you can get into these 7 habits, success will surely follow. Teach these habits to to your team to give them the chance of absolute success. Remember what I said earlier, “if you help enough people to get what they want, you will get everything that you want“. So please share these habits with everyone you know, whether they are a part of your business or not, you will reap the rewards in the long term.
Be successful and enjoy your success.
Dave.
